Greenville Elementary wins NECA 27

 The team from Scarsdale, New York’s Greenville Elementary topped the standings at the National Educational Chess Association’s 27th tournament, held at King school in Stamford, Connecticut. New Canaan’s South School came in second followed by Darien’s Hindley and Ox Ridge teams.

 “Today’s competition saw veteran tournament players and newcomers converge from towns throughout Westchester and Fairfield Counties for a strong regional test,” said NECA President and National Master Alex Eydelman. “Each tournament we host shows the strong foundation this region offers in a chess education and the skills the sport teaches in terms of focus, memory and concrete lessons in strategy and tactics.”

 Zihan Zhao won the Kindergarten division with a perfect score, winning all his matches and earning a rating of 433. Tristan Gemelli also earned a perfect score and won the First Grade division bringing his rating to 728. Three perfect scores were achieved by William Maister, Cameron Siegal and Noah Goldstein in the Primary Novice division earning them ratings of 709, 543 and 459 respectively. Vikram Sarkar won the Primary Open division with a perfect set of four matches earning a rating of 898. Luke Jiamu Huang won three matches and drew a fourth to earn the top spot in the Elementary Novice division and a rating of 521. The Elementary Novice division saw Joseph Ho Iv take the top spot with three wins and a draw, earning a rating of 1,200. Aaron Job Corcino won the Middle School division with three wins, earning a rating of 1,028.

 The next NECA tournament, and first contest of 2016 will take place February 7, 2016 at the Italian Center in Stamford. The NECA Advanced Chess Club will start sessions December 12th 3:15-5:15pmat the Italian Center.
